Hello, all.
After my first dog guide did not work out from Guiding Eyes for the Blind, I have since reapplied to GEB for another one. Just to see if I could get accepted into other schools, I also applied and got accepted yesterday into Guide Dog Foundation.
My question is, which school is better? From personal experience, I wasn't thrilled regarding Guiding Eye's follow-up support, or their graduate services department. One reason for considering Guide Dog Foundation is due to the fact that the dogs can be trained for hearing-related tasks, which would come in great handy for me.
All opinions are welcome.
Nathan.
hello here is my views from getting my guide dog from gdf, my dog wasn't tried for hearing but he was trained as a guide dog I have the gdf school. I got after care and the was great for me. I did go with gdf then the program was 25 days long and that was great for me. but the trainers do work with you and will let you try things to help you feel good about your dog. some of the training skills you can change to work for you. but yes I had a good time with gdf and Dave and I are still working great as a team. please message me if you have any questions. Erica.
Nathan,
I do not have experience with either school, but I am just curious: what did you not like about GEB?
Erica, your dog's name is Dave? That's great! I've been fortunate to have also great dog names like that: Willie, Rubin, Cody my present dog. My worst fear is that I'll get a rather lengthy dog name that by the time I say it the light changes from walk to don't walk. Okay, joke bbut some names are quite interesting.
